Amazon announces new Edmonton-area fulfillment centre

ONE Properties and TD Greystone Asset Management will develop a million-square-foot fulfillment centre for e-commerce giant Amazon in Leduc County, just outside the City of Edmonton.

Amazon also announced in mid-2017 a facility in Rocky View County north of Calgary, which is now open and employs more than 1,500 workers.

The four facilities Amazon is currently building comprise a total of about 3.5 million square feet of leasable space.

The Leduc fulfillment centre, which will focus on the packing and shipping of larger consumer goods, is expected to employ about 600.

When it opens, the Leduc facility will be Amazon’s 11th fulfillment centre in Canada.

“Our ability to create over 600 good-paying jobs with great benefits is thanks to the network of support we’ve received and the skilled workforce in the region,” said Glenn Sommerville, director of Amazon operations in Canada, in a release.

“We’re grateful for the welcome we’ve received from government and community leaders and excited by our growth in Alberta and ability to better serve our customers.”

Outdoor equipment, patio furniture and bicycles are among the types of products which will ship from the warehouse.
